Pamukkale, meaning “cotton castle” in Turkish, is a natural wonder in Denizli Province, southwestern Turkey. The travertine terraces are a result of deposits of calcium carbonate from the hot springs, which have been used for centuries for their therapeutic properties.
The terraces are today one of the most visited places in Turkey, and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
